Homosassa is still the “Scallop Capital of Florida”!!!
Homosassa is still the “Scallop Capital of Florida”!!!
Thank you…Thank you…Thank you!!! With about a week left to this year’s scallop season we have had by far our best season ever! Not only have we done more scallop charters than any previous year, starting with opening day the scallops have been bigger than anyone can ever remember and on most charters limits were very easy to obtain. Some days the water was so shallow you didn’t even have to put your head underwater to reach the scallops! Please remember to book you Scallop charters early for next season, as many families return every year to enjoy the “Underwater Easter Egg Hunt”!
As the water temperatures start to cool the fishing action should start to explode with the arrival of schools of baitfish migrating south. We’ve already heard reports of the huge Bull Redfish on the Spoil Banks north of Crystal River. Try live shrimp, live or cut Pinfish or cut Ladyfish weighted on the bottom for some drag screaming fun! The St. Martin Keys are also a good place to look for schools of Redfish this time of the year work the incoming tide for best results. As the number of boats decreases from the Scallop fleet, the lush grass flats from Black Rock to the south near Chassahowitzka all the way to the Bird Rack north of the Homosassa River will again become the place to look for Speckled Sea Trout returning to feed after their journey offshore to spawn. Hopefully all the floating grass will be gone soon so we’ll be able to use your favorite top water lures or jig heads with soft plastics behind Cajun Thunders. October has always been one of my favorite months to fish here on Florida’s Nature Coast. The weather is not as brutal hot and the fishing action usually heats up with multiple species being caught in a single day. If you haven’t fished with us before take advantage of our “Introductory Offer” of $299.00 for a full day charter for one to four anglers. This rate includes everything except your lunch, beverages and gratuity. The “Introductory Offer” is valid September 26, 2012 through November 30, 2012, only on our Carolina Skiff charters. The “Introductory Offer” will not be available next year or will not be offered on charters aboard our new Young Boat. Check our web-site at www.HomosassaRedfish.com for more details or to reserve your charter. We only have a few prime dates left in October; book now to enjoy a day on the water in one of Florida’s last best kept fishing secrets!!!
Update, Young Boat, www.Young-Boats.com, the building of “Red-Eddie or Knot” is almost completed, I’ve been getting progress pictures almost daily and my new boat is still scheduled to be delivered before the end of September.
