Homosassa – Spring Fishing
Homosassa – Spring Fishing
Spring has sprung and the weather has finally started to improve with the Gulf’s water temperature steadily going up. Hopefully once the water temperature reaches 70 degrees it will trigger a feeding frenzy and conditions will return to normal for this time of the year. The Speckled Sea Trout bite has really turned on in the last week.
Look for clean water on windy days, inside of St. Martins Keys and outside of the Little Homosassa River. As the water continues to warm, the Trout will move back out on to the lush grass flats. The Trout continue to eat Berkley Gulps floating behind a Cajun Thunder with White Jerk Shade being a hot color. The Sheepshead are still schooled up on near-shore rock piles and the bait of choice is live shrimp. These fish are fun to catch, fight hard and are even better as table fare.
Most of the guides are reporting seeing Redfish but they continue to have lock-jaw. Captain Bill, out of Chassahowitzka reported many Reds swimming the west facing points and shorelines of the outside keys. Last Saturday, fishing 10 to 12 miles offshore with Abby Moon and Jason Roberts from Riverview, Florida, we had two monster Redfish, lazily swim within 15 feet of the boat and they just refused to eat. As dates are booking up fast in April, (only a few days still available in April), May, and June, please visit our website at www.HomosassaRedfish.com, to reserve your adventure on the pristine waters of Old Homosassa!!! We would like to thank everyone who came by to visit with us at The 33rd Annual World Fishing & Outdoor Exposition in Suffern, New York, March 4th through March 7th. The show was a MAJOR success with over 50,000 attendees at the four day show and we look forward to fishing with all our new friends here in our little piece of paradise; Homosassa, one of Florida’s last best kept secrets! As we were the ONLY exhibitors from Florida our booth was constantly crowded and yes we did get to see some SNOW! At this show we did a drawing at the end of each day and gave away four FREE charters! The four winners of the FREE charters were Rob Nebel, Ray Gelormino, Damon Mastrangelo and Chris Schuchts. Their charters are good for one to four people, and includes everything except lunch, beverages and gratuity, trip must be taken on a mutually agreeable date within one year from the date of the Suffern show.
Special thanks to Gail & Phil Oakes of the Homosassa Riverside Resort, www.RiversideResorts.com, for there continued support and donations to the Florida Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), www.ccaflorida.org. Gail and Phil have agreed to donate two nights at the resort which will be packaged with two full days of fishing with Captain “Red ED”, and will be part of the live auctions at both the Tampa, 4/22/10, and Hernando County, 4/29/10, CCA Banquets.
